A check can be brief and specific

An editorial follow-up asks the student to explain one inference, respond to a changed assumption or apply the concept to a new case. It can be live, supervised in writing or an agreed accessible equivalent. Select follow-ups according to published course rules and accommodations, rather than intuition about writing style.

Check the scoring as well as the student

Teachers can mark a small common set of responses, compare reasons for disagreement and revise ambiguous criteria. Keep examples of borderline performance. This proposed moderation routine checks consistency of judgment; it does not establish that every task measures all intended outcomes. Formal AP and IB marking rules must be taken from their current documents.
